Hello to my lovely family of #Teamsineaters/cursed, Guardians, Immortals, Mystics, Hunters, and more!

I have to say 2013 has been a major change and time of growth for me in my personal life and in my work.

Although Sin Eaters will be two years old in 2014, you guys love for the story has kept me motivated and excited for a new year!

June 3rd on Amazon SE1 will hit a milestone by being published in Mass Paperback! I am hoping this will make it easier to get in more people’s hands and introduce the world to my beautiful, funny, loving, dedicated, and haunting characters.

As a writer who has shifted into being a author, I have to say this journey hasn’t been easy by far. SE has dropped in sales (sad face) but again, as I previously stated, I just hope it’s for a little bit, why? Because June 24th 2014 (possibly) Sin Eaters: Retribution (Devotion Book Two) will be coming to the world.

My gift to you that follow me is a glimpse of the book cover for the 2014! I want you all to share the news, introduce those who haven’t picked up SE1 or those who have been to afraid to read it because its not a specific genre of theirs, to Sin Eaters. Let them know what you thought of the book and how you connected to the work, the characters, and the world of the Sin Eaters.

I can not wait for 2014! It feels like it will be nothing but success, growth, love, and excitement coming. I hope to be able to schedule book signings as well. It is a possibly that I may be in Hawaii in the summer too and I hope I can get SE out there to the big Island! :)

More news for 2014, I am almost done with new piece of work that is taking me out of my Fantasy realm and dropping me into a Contemporary Romance with a splash of Eroticism. I hope again that you all pick it up once it comes out and of course I’ll keep you all in the loop for when it’s slated. I also hope to have my Steampunk Fantasy book done within several months, so lets cross those fingers that I do.

It’s time for everyone to know about Kai Leakes, Sin Eaters, and my literary mind. I hope you all keep safe and I give my thanks to everyone that supported me in the 2013 year.

Below are the links to where I was featured, mentioned, or interviewed during 2013, as well as you glimpse of Sin Eaters: Retribution (Devotion Book 2).

Hello #TeamSinEaters/Cursed,

Today is the day, that I stepped into the threshold of being a new author and sharing with you all my baby, Sin Eaters: Devotion Book One on July 31st and August 1st 2012 . I can’t say how much I learned and continue to learn with releasing that story to the world. I have experienced things that I could only dream of, back when I was sitting in my apartment in Missouri wondering if anyone would even like it.  It took a push from my long distance muse and close friend author Nikki Michelle, also known as my pen wife (insider), to literally yell at  me to brush my baby off and submit it to a woman we both admired for her work as a incredible author.

From that, it led me on a fun ride to gaining a wonderful author who has also pushed me to write, write, write, to become my agent.  I was lucky in meeting the late and great (my inspiration) L.A. Banks and other jewels of growth that I hold close to my heart about.

Since introducing myself as a writer, I’ve also met a special group of people, who have fallen in love with the characters of my book.  My Team Sin Eaters.  Every day I’m shocked and amazed at how deeply you all have and still have, followed the book. We haven’t gone so deep to get you all to cosplay them yet (I’m working on that), but I love the messages of support and questions sent my way.

To this day, I still call myself an emerging writer, but with the love that I have received, with the support and the many copies you all have purchased and made others purchase, including making fans out of people who thought this book was going to be one specific way, we have grown and we continue (sorry for the Star Trek quote) to prosper.

As an update in my world, I have a short story that is done, called ‘Run’ in which this is my step into writing New Adult with a fantasy/scifi feel.  I will always be a fan of my fantasy.  I hope to finish the editing of ‘Run’ soon, so you all may have something to read as I thing about how to expand it.  Also I have coming soon, is a story with lethal pen Nikki Michelle and an author I must keep a tight lid on.  From there, this should lead into SIN EATERS - RETRIBUTION DEVOTION BOOK 2 COMING IN 2014.

I will continue to write, and work on my Steampunk novel, as well as YA story which will have me going into fairy tales.  Stay with me and enjoy the ride.  I grew up reading fantasy and romance and as an adult I sought out those elements to get me through the real world.  I hope by writing what I love, and grew up on, more adults can take joy in just getting away from it all and experience fantasy again, as they once did as children.

Remember to visit my website and read the sneak peek of SE2 under the Compound tab, also click that tab to read other short stories and view character bios.  Happy Reading!

*I’m rusty in my poetry but here we go. I had to get it out.  For Peace!.....

No More by Kai Leakes- Written July 16,2013

It seems as if change has come,

With the remaining echoes of protests and rallies past,

Now long gone.

To battle and bleed for rights that refused to fall into foundation for our cause.

The night encumbers and snatches us whole.

As the past so shall it was,

Has now become our is.

The cadence of an ungodly force knocks us back,

To see the faces of those who have fallen for the rights of us all.

The faces of our ancestors,

Throats shackled.

Bodies strung,

Like decoration in trees.

It sparks a flaming reminder.

Those strange fruit,

Whose necks were clasped by the hands of enemies that point their barrel at us still.

The pulse is harsh,

Menacing and cold,

But in its force,

The bullet stops and falls at the feet of those intended to fall.

No more is shouted from the echoes of our ancestor’s cries.

We stand our ground without holding a weapon,

Or using our hands,

And watch our enemy fall.

You attack us and try to end us.

But as you target,

And stalk us,

We only grow strong.

What is called our weakness,

Is only what will be your karma as we yell,

No more.

You will never take from us again.

Hello #Teamsineaters/cursed,

I feel like sharing this article “My Greatest Fear: The BLACK Box for Bestselling Authors”. For me as a writer, it bothers me when authors such as this one (who has a right to her feelings) make comments such as "trashy urban lit”. No genre is monolithic. Not all urban lit is trash. Case in point my book Sin Eaters. Right now Amazon has it labeled as Urban Lit. and African American Lit. honestly, it bothers me, but at the same time it doesn’t. My book is not Urban Lit. or African American Lit in my opinion. It just happens that my leads are African American. But the rest of my characters are of other races as well. I feel Sin Eaters is a Fantasy,Paranormal work which features a beautiful Black, Asian, Latino and Caucasian cast, that is it.

What bothers me is that my work is not being given that support it should have in a broad view, but at the same time, what I’ve always wanted is happening, and that is Black readers, like me, are picking up my book and enjoying it. I have some readers who are shocked because they assumed that Sin Eaters was a Urban Lit book, or street-lit and it’s classically not. Urban Lit is not something to be scared off, it has a large LARGE rung of subtexts, and not all of them are shoot em up, slanging in the streets. Many of those stories some of us are afraid of, are just as good and shares deep messages, but people just can be rude about how they view such work. If you don’t like a genre that is fine, but know you may be missing out on a lot of good work that is possibly lost in the mix.

Please be respectful of all art because then you get comments like in the article. My work deserves a chance, and it just so happens to be labeled Urban Lit. pick up the book, read the back, and be brave like many of the fans I have now, and who have taken a chance on me. Stop being prejudice. That’s my thoughts on it.
